As soon as the heavens opened, she ran across the open field towards the barn. Her normal route when leaving the copse would be to walk across the top of the field to the next wooded path, which eventually leads to the road. Today, she was heading to the abandoned barn.
He was already at the barn as she approached, silhouetted in the doorway by the light inside. The rain had been unexpected, and her flame red hair was now plastered to her head, dark and heavy with the water. Her cotton dress stuck against her thighs as she walked across the field, but she didn’t care. He was there. Austin.
As she reached the doorway, he tipped back the rim of his Stetson. Damn, he was beautiful, his six-foot-tall figure leaning against the frame. A devilish grin spread across his lips as he took in the sight of her.
“Aah shit, you’re all wet!”
Before she had crossed the threshold, he had wrapped his arms around her, pulling her into his body. She let her fingers trace across his broad shoulders, taking in the scent of him. Denim, hay and that “come-fuck-me” cologne he always wore. She tipped her head back to meet his dark eyes looking down into hers.
He was hungry.
