Hiring Bonus

The house was exactly what Tina had always wanted. Roomy, light, and in a pleasant neighborhood.

The move had turned her life upside down, but that wasn’t a bad thing. She’d been listless. After being married to Chester for a year, stuck at home and with Chester stuck in his old job, they’d fallen into boring routines. The future looked to be more of the same, and that hurt.

She wanted her life to have excitement, and she found she craved adventure more than she’d ever realized.

Ray, Chester’s new boss, showed up, courting Ray. But he also courted her. He ran a growing business and his eyes glowed when he spoke about the future.

“We don’t do business like other firms,” he said. “Life and business should both be fun. Business should be filled with pleasure.”

When he offered to move them from Cleveland, Chester agreed.

And then Ray even recommended a realtor who sold their old house and found them a new house near his.

It was a great house, and she loved it.

A heady time.

This lovely spring morning, she was settling in. The movers had come and gone and Chester was at the office, so she got started right after breakfast, unpacking boxes of things. She was just shuffling things, and it was warm and she had the house wide open, so she didn’t bother to dress and stayed in her long Hard Rock Cafe tee-shirt and panties.

That didn’t matter until she heard a knock on the door.

Ray, the boss, was at the door, holding up a basket.

“House warming present,” he said.

Embarrassed at being barely dressed, she hesitated, but then let him in.

She’d noted that Ray was a man of gestures. He was a confident and attractive man, only five years older than her and Chester. He fascinated her, captivated her. In fact, her first thought when she met him was: “If I weren’t married…”

That hadn’t changed and fortunately, being married didn’t mean she couldn’t have fantasies about him. And she had.

Chester was a hot guy in his own right. He’d played minor league baseball and stayed fit. But he wasn’t imaginative and by the time they’d been married for six months, Tina found herself dreaming about other men, fantasizing about sex with them.

A lot.

“Chester is dealing with human resources,” Ray said. “It takes a shitload of paperwork just to say you hired someone. But I have people to do that, so I thought I’d come over and welcome you… properly.”

She opened the basket and found a bottle of champagne and two glasses.

“Ray…”

“I want you to feel as welcome as Chester,” he said.

He opened the bottle with a flair and poured them each a glass.

“I’ve paid Chester the most attention, but work and business shouldn’t be too separate. After all, you’ll be entertaining.” His eyes flickered. “Business is inherently social. I think it should involve pleasure. If it ain’t...
