Kaitlyn
“Kaitlyn!” My backpack dropped to the floor, and I threw my arms wide, catching the two little dynamos who launched themselves at me as soon as the door opened. I hugged them close as they wrapped their arms around my neck and hung off of me like monkeys.
“Hey, Mr. K,” I smiled and shuffled past their father, carrying their baby brother in his arms. He picked up my backpack and followed us into the family room at the back of the house.
The three- and four-year-olds hung off my neck, legs swinging as I shuffled through the house and into the family room. I’d started babysitting for the Knightley family my senior year, when their old babysitter headed off to college. Now, after finishing up my course at the community college, I was the one heading off to school in the fall. Two months to go before I left for Northwestern for my Arts degree. I couldn’t wait.
I’m going to miss these guys when I go to college. I peppered their faces with kisses and dropped them onto the oversized couch. They made babysitting fun, and I loved spending time with them. Well, that and the money was good, too. Brad and Cynthia, and all the friends they’d introduced me to, paid me really well. I had enough money saved up that if I was frugal, I wouldn’t have to work more than part-time at school.
But I dreaded the hours spent alone after the kids went...
