It’s one of those typical evenings out. A beer. My girl. The worn stool at the bar. It’s almost too usual. Nothing new. Nothing unexpected. There’s comfort in the same establishment: the bartender I know by name, the faces I see every week, the scent of spirits, the watermarks on the table with the old cigarette burns; but the adventure is missing. The same routine can numb you. If only something would happen to add a little more flavor to the normal. Something to spice it up.
My eyes flicker up. This is unexpected. Someone I don’t know is standing near the jukebox with her friends, casually leaning there, choosing a new song. The moment lasts too long, stretching to an impolite amount of time. I can’t look away or I don’t want to. I toss an inquisitive grin instead. She gives me a slight smile, acknowledging my existence. The look says something else too, but I wouldn’t dare think it’s anything more than, He’s sexy or, I like his jacket. But then there’s an actual wink and my body experiences a hot flush and an eager hello-twitch from inside my pants. I want to drink this woman in. It’s an easy task, smoother than the beer I’ve been nursing.
