As she pulled her car up outside the Scottson brothers’ garage, she felt her stomach begin to fill with butterflies. She had grown up around these boys, men!, and there had always been something between her and Brad, never spoken but definitely felt.
As she stepped out of the car, she could hear an engine turning inside with intermittent sounds of the nineties music they always had on in the background, taking her back to her younger days with them, of evenings on the beach with a small fire and a few too many beers. Closing the car door, she made her way to the large doorway. What was it about the smell of a garage? The scent of engine oil and grease mixed with musky cologne and perspiration. The smell always stirred something inside her, and today it caused those butterflies in her stomach to dance. As she entered the workshop, she saw him in the far bay, head under the bonnet of an old BMW. Damn he looked good in those overalls. Bending over the engine bay, he appeared to be struggling with something.
“Motherfucker!” he grumbled, tossing the wrench he had been using to the floor.
“Doesn’t she want to play today?” she asked, alerting him to her presence. He spun around, clearly not realising he had company.
“Shit! Give a guy a heart attack!”
He took a moment to realise who she was, standing in front of him wearing a vest top, denim shorts and a...
