Chapter 10

“Ms. Hanson, this is Jay Livingston. Jay, this is Ms. Melissa Hanson. She’s a VIP guest. Jay knows everything about the auction. He’ll show you around.” AJ gave the hurried introductions then shook Jay’s hand.

“Thanks, Jay. I owe you one.” AJ turned to Melissa. “Have a great evening, Ms. Hanson.”

“Thanks, AJ.” AJ was back behind the counter greeting guests before Melissa finished her sentence.

She slowly turned to the man who had been introduced as Jay. He was about six feet tall, leanly muscled, with wavy dark blond hair. His charcoal-gray suit was perfectly tailored to his runner’s body.

“So,” Jay said with an easy smile. “Do you come here often?”

Melissa’s megawatt smile lit up her face. Her brown skin shimmered under the dancing light of the chandelier.

“Actually, this is my first time.”

“Hmm, that’s exactly what I like to hear. Let me show you around. I guarantee you’ll have a night you won’t forget.”

Jay held out his arm to Melissa. She hesitated.

“I really shouldn’t be here. I’m a guest at the hotel. I didn’t come here for the auction.”

Jay waved her concerns aside. “Everyone is welcome at the auction. There’s still time to sign up. I bet some lucky guy would be happy to sweep you off your feet.” He wiggled his eyebrows suggestively.

Melissa gingerly hooked her arm around Jay’s and let him lead her across the lobby.
