Georgette slept the entire day and woke just as the sun slipped past the horizon out of the window. She shifted in the sumptuous bed and pulled the sheets up to her chin as she curled onto her side.

There was a fire in the fireplace and a tray on the table nearby.

To think this morning she had been charged with making the fires, beds, and bringing trays of tea. That was until the Earl of Hamphordshire walked in.

He had been everything she had dreamt he would be and so much more. Since she had been hired three weeks ago, she had hidden her secret feelings as she daydreamed about the Earl falling in love with her. As she cleaned and dusted the manor house, she would often stand and look at the portraits of him, imagining him looking back at her.

Those blue eyes and dark hair with just a hint of gray in the pictures didn’t do justice to the man who had come and found her in the library earlier.

Once there, he had approached her and given her the most exquisite pleasure, much to her surprise. She could’ve never thought he would’ve sought her out or even felt the same way.

She had been worried it had all been a dream, and she would wake up in her cot in the attic with her back sore from another long day of carrying coal buckets and baskets of laundry.
