Georgette couldn’t believe what was happening. She should be carrying her coal bucket to the next room in the house, lighting the fires as she went before beginning to clean the upstairs room. Today was her day to polish the silver.
But she was being carried across the library towards the yellow silk chair in the corner by the Earl himself. She had dreamt of this so many times.
Her blouse was open, her legs weak, and she still was catching her breath.
She looked up at the Earl, who was carrying her across the room as if she weighed nothing. He was still in his great coat, leather trousers, and boots from his morning outing on the grounds. His face was chiseled and firm, with a small smile turning him from handsome into something indescribable.
He held her with such care and tenderness that she didn’t know how to respond as he sat her gently on the yellow silk chair.
“Now, Georgette,” he began, his striking blue eyes drinking in her features.
“Yes, milord?” Her own voice was still breathless from what he had done to her when he had finished locking the doors.
“What do you think so far of our…” he paused before saying, “Companionship?”
“I think that was the best feeling I’ve ever had,” she said, still catching her breath. “Milord,” she said after a moment.
“Really?” he said, cocking an eyebrow.
She nodded.
“And have you ever felt that before?”
