Donna spent the rest of that day hanging upside down from a chair in the kitchen, waiting for Kathy to get home from work. It was the only way to get comfortable, and it was near the mango she ate on and off throughout the morning. Mangoes were normally delicious, but now they were sheer ambrosia. She wondered how anything else could ever compare to mangoes, and why she didn’t subsist entirely on mangoes already.
Work and errands and chores be damned. Like her, apparently. She felt it when the sun went down. She felt it on the top of her head, which hit the linoleum with a resounding thunk. "Where the heck are you?" Kathy said, without so much as a preamble. "We were going to get dinner with Sam and Cara."
"I would lie," Donna said, "but that’s not how we roll. Listen, the most amazing thing happened! That guy that bit me last night? Was really a vampire! I spent most of the day as a bat. I ate a mango. I'm so excited!"
"... Ok, well, are you coming to dinner?"...
