Chapter 3 - He’s Not Great, but He Isn’t the Worst.

“Where are you?”

The text message caught him off guard. Kevin completely forgot he absentmindedly exchanged numbers with Jason at the end of class on Saturday. He didn’t consider needing to text Jason anytime soon. So the first message of their chat history felt… strange. It didn’t belong, but it wasn’t bad to see it.

“…” Kevin shook his head. What am I thinking?

“At school, where else?” he quickly texted back.

“I mean where at school 💢 No shit you’re at school,” the response was immediate.

Errgh… Since they started actually talking, Kevin discovered how much of a potty mouth Jason actually had. Despite having a pretty face, he never hesitated to insult and insert curses in everything he said.

The next message arrived before Kevin had a chance to respond, “Meet us at the north entrance of the cafeteria.”

“Us?” he typed back, but this time, Jason didn’t respond.

Well, if he wasn’t going to answer his question, why would he go— his phone buzzed again. “Where are you? Get over here already,” was the demand from Jason.

“…” Kevin looked at his phone nervously. Somehow, those simple words emitted a threatening aura. Maybe it was due to the lack of emotes and perfect grammar. But, Kevin felt an irrational fear that if he didn’t join Jason for whatever he wanted, the other boy was going to appear and choke him from behind....
