The door exploded right on schedule. She smiled, seeing her expression reflected in her computer monitor. Whatever ills she had to say about Captain Courage, hero to corporations everywhere, he could always be counted on to be punctual.
“I was wondering if you were going to be late,” she called over her shoulder. “Hold on a moment, let me save this file.”
His voice was deep, authoritarian. The Captain was a man who was used to being listened to. And it so annoyed him when she didn’t listen to him. That was part of what made it so much fun. “You won’t be needing it—”
“Where I’m going. Yes, yes, I know the script. Just a tick… there.” She turned and smiled up at the very handsome, and now very visibly annoyed hero. He wore skin-tight spandex in bright, primary colors, with little corporate logos embroidered on his broad shoulders. “My, you’re looking trim, Captain,” she said. “New tailor? Are you cutting carbs?” She pursed her lips and tipped her head to one side, studying his sculpted physique, watching as he preened under her gaze. Theatrically, she covered her mouth with her fingers. “Oh! I’ve been so busy recently. Captain, did I miss the wedding announcement? Is that the change I’m seeing? Is there a Mrs. Captain now?
