The “Well, that’s two hours of my life I’ll never get back.”

Tabitha snorts. “It wasn’t all that bad.”

Isaak Travers, Tabby’s best friend, slips her an incredulous side glance. “Were you and I watching the same movie? Because that was like that time we sat and watched the Blair Witch Project. Yet another hour and a half of my life I’ll never get back.”

“You should just admit that horror movies suck now. Once you embrace this fact we can start going to see other movies instead.”

Isaak stops dead, holding out his hand to grasp her bicep. “Hold up…what did you just say to me?”

Tabby laughs at his mock indignance and holds her hands up, palms out. “You’re right. Sorry. I should never besmirch the horror genre.”

“Damn right,” Isaak huffs.

They amble up the next few blocks, having just left the AMC movie theater off of Boston Common. Tabby doesn’t want to admit how long it had been since she’d last seen Isaak. Work and…well, Eric…had been taking up her time. More work than Eric, however. She had yet to see him again after that amazing weekend three months ago when he’d fucked her in every hole, leaving her a drooling, sweaty mess. She walked into work that Monday with a pleasant, aching hitch in her step, and every time she sat it was a reminder of what they’d done.

Normally, her and Isaak’s typical hang outs involved watching crappy reality TV, but this time they’d opted for a night on the town. After dinner, they’d hit up the AMC for the latest offering from Sam Raimi, and…both of them had been less than impressed.

Isaak loops his arm with hers and pulls her close. Tabby loses her footing slightly, and they both trip over themselves. The friends laugh, and maybe it’s the giddiness you feel when you’re with your platonic soulmate, or maybe it’s the drinks they’d imbibed at dinner, but whatever the cause, Tabby feels higher and lighter than she has in weeks.

Like she doesn’t want the night to end.

“You ever wonder what else is out there?” Tabby muses as she looks up at the darkened Boston sky where there might have been stars if not for the light pollution.

Isaak follows her gaze, trying to figure out what has snared her attention. When he doesn’t see anything peculiar, he looks ahead again and shrugs his shoulders. “Haven’t really thought too much about it. Went to church as a kid, but kinda lost my taste for it.” Tabby glances back at him in time to see his face fall.

“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have said anything.”

“It’s okay. When you’re told you’re going to hell for loving another man, well, you get bitter.”
