I have been taking care to follow my dear friend, Mina's, example and write faithfully in my diary since I contracted my mysterious 'illness' back in Whitby. Knowing what I know now, I can see a clear pattern in my previous entries.
I understand just what happened to me that first night I sleepwalked all the way to the cemetery. I understand why my dreams were so full of fear though I could remember nothing. I understand why I only slept well and safely if I didn't sleep alone.
The cause of my ailment was one that would only be spoken by superstitious commoners after crossing themselves or by the most obscure and eccentric of scholars. I know that even I will not speak of this outside of this single diary entry. For in these modern times, it sounds the ravings of a lunatic.
Vampire!
