Chapter 5: Fungi
Adrenaline could only carry her so far. The narrow escape from the colossal, predatory flower left Aris trembling, nauseous, and acutely aware of her own vulnerability. Every shadow seemed to writhe with grasping tendrils; every sweet scent felt like a precursor to violation. The bio-counteractant from Orb-E had dulled the worst of the vine pollen's effects, but the flower's soporific perfume still clung in the air, leaving her feeling hazy, edges blurred, senses unnervingly heightened yet dulled simultaneously. She felt contaminated, both by the injected pollen and the sheer psychological weight of being hunted by an entire ecosystem.
